Just when you thought you had it figured all out, additional changes are coming your way. We blogged about the announcement of new codes in March but wanted to share a friendly reminder to make sure you are taking steps to educate yourselves about the updated codes for October 1, 2016.
The background: The CDC released FY 2017 ICD-10-CM codes that go into effect for dates beginning October 1, 2016 spanning through September 30, 2017.
Breakdown of the numbers:
- 1,974 new ICD-10-CM codes
- 425 diagnosis codes with revised definitions
- 311 codes that were deleted
These 2017 ICD-10-CM codes are to be used for discharges occurring from October 1, 2016 through September 30, 2017 and for patient encounters occurring from October 1, 2016 through September 30, 2017.
