If pop-wellness is a reflection of social change, population health is the face of social change. “Population Health works to achieve the health and well-being of the individual by improving the health of the larger population. It promotes a holistic view of health and stresses the importance of prevention and wellness.” Building upon various scientific and social disciplines population health does the hard work of understanding group based determinants of health, designing policy, influencing individual and group behavior, and monitoring outcomes. Over against the highbrow, rockstar, vicissitudes of pop-wellness, population health seeks to strike the needed balance between promoting a knowledgeable, responsible, freely chosen, personal discipline of health and wellness that also conforms with and achieves the collective goals of the health and well-being of the larger population. The health of the one contributes to and is supported by the welfare of the many. Live long and proper!
