Recall in the blog released earlier this month Mediware alerted you to the fact that the previous evaluation CPT code for SLP 92506 was being replaced with four new, more specific codes: 92521, 92522, 92523, 92524. The fact that the previous code required use of an outcomes reporting G-code led us to believe that the four new codes require claims-based outcomes reporting as well.

Upon emailing Pamela R. West, DPT, MPH, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Center for Medicare Hospital and Ambulatory Payment Group, Division of Practitioner Services, she replied, “ Yes, the new SLP evaluation codes will be subject to Functional Reporting. I don’t believe the CR has been released yet.”

Given this information, beginning with all outpatient services rendered January 1 and thereafter, the SLP will have to apply an appropriate evaluation and goal G code when billing any of the four new codes. If they are billing inpatient only services then utilization of the appropriate new AMA supplied CPT code is sufficient.

I reviewed the newly released 2014 Physician Fee Schedule documents and noted the following information regarding these newly released codes.
