Proposed Rule for IRF-PPS, Fiscal Year 2018, Released
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Prospective Payment System Proposed Rule for Federal Fiscal Year 2018 on Friday, April 27. I have waited anxiously since the middle of April for the announcement from CMS that this was available, and I have been hoping that the changes to the IRF-PAI form this year would be minimal.
And my wish came true. There is only ONE change to the IRF-PAI form, which is effective for discharges on or after October 1, 2018. This is a huge relief for all of us who went through the changes last year, especially those IRFs that are still struggling to solidify their workflow for capturing all the new quality measures that were introduced for FY 2017.
Stay ahead of the changes CMS is bringing to your IRF.
So what is this year’s single change? Removal of voluntary item #27, which is swallowing status. That is great news for this year! But … the proposed rule also includes changes for FY 2019. Lots of changes. The entire FY 2019 proposed rule is 211 pages long. Need I say more?
The Mediware team will be reviewing this document in full and providing an overview in a webinar on May 17. Join us for this discussion and to hear about how we are already planning for these requirements, so our clients can be ready for the October 1, 2019 implementation.
CMS is not done with change, but as we can see, you get a break this year. Make the best of it! This is only a one year reprieve, so we can all let that sigh of relief escape. Take your moment, but don’t let FY 2019 out of your sites. It will be here before we know it.
