Los Angeles County Department of Community and Senior Services Selects Harmony Information Systems to Assist in Protecting its Vulnerable Citizens from Abuse and Neglect

On-Demand Solution Will Help County Improve Adult Protective Services Investigations and Outcomes

RESTON, VA – April 27, 2010 – Mediware Information Systems, Inc. (Harmony), the leader in integrated health and human services management, announced today that the Los Angeles County Department of Community and Senior Services (CSS) has selected Harmony for APS to replace a legacy software system and to create a single, comprehensive system for county seniors, streamline workflow processes and automate state-mandated reporting. The contract is valued at $3.1 million.  Los Angeles County is one of the major APS jurisdictions in the Country.

“We needed a robust solution to manage the high volume of investigations. After a rigorous evaluation, we chose Harmony for APS because it meets our needs, it is highly configurable and it is integrated with our existing Harmony for Aging (SAMS) system for our Older American Act programs,” said Cynthia D. Banks, Director, Los Angeles County CSS.  “Through the secure integration, Harmony is able to consolidate information about senior citizens being cared for in their homes and communities with data from investigations related to reports of abuse and neglect of senior citizens and dependent adults to better serve and protect them.”

The deployment of Harmony for APS, a comprehensive case management system delivered over the Internet using a Software as a Service (SaaS) model, will enable Los Angeles County to closely align Aging and APS programs by mapping participant data from Harmony for Aging to prevent duplicate data entry. This information will provide APS investigators visibility into all services received by seniors thereby helping to improve outcomes of elderly abuse cases.  Harmony for APS will also alleviate the administrative burden of state-mandated reporting by automating required California reports (i.e. SOC 242, 341, 342, and 343).

“Los Angeles County is the second California County in a week to select Harmony for APS, a testament to the need for a Web-based off-the-shelf solution like this in the state,” said Joseph Sander, President and CEO of Harmony Information Systems.  “As more states and counties succeed in rebalancing and expanding home and community-based care, the need for APS and Aging departments to be closely aligned will increase. Harmony’s fully integrated suite of solutions facilitates this alignment helping states and counties improve the quality of care they deliver to their seniors.”

The Harmony suite of solutions is rapidly becoming the standard for aging services organizations throughout the country.  Harmony for Aging is the most widely-used solution in the United States for home and community-based care and is relied on by the majority of states and across the national aging network.  Harmony for APS, which was introduced in 2009, is already live in three state-wide deployments.  Together, the two Harmony products make up the only fully integrated suite of off-the-shelf solutions for aging services organizations and their web-based delivery model shortens implementation times, decreases upfront capital expenses and provides anywhere, anytime access by case workers.

Harmony for APS is a comprehensive end-to-end case management system that meets the full range of APS needs, including workflows that help workers clearly follow the steps throughout the APS process, management tools that help ensure proper supervision of APS staff, and automated business processes that provide clear alignment between actions, policies, and procedures. Its on-demand delivery model provides access from anywhere at anytime, eliminates the need for any upfront capital expense and makes it fast and inexpensive to install.
