Dr. Paul Ness to Deliver Mediware Keynote Address Influential Physician from Johns Hopkins will speakon the future of blood banking during annual user conference.

Dr. Ness is highly regarded as a blood management thought leader and will discuss how increasing demands are creating new needs, new technologies and new opportunities for blood banks. This includes supply and cost pressures, blood management efficiencies, and the complex management requirements of using stem cells, tissues and other biologics in patient therapies.
Mediware’s user conference is immediately after the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) meeting. Dr. Ness has extensive experience in the management of community blood centers and a large academic transfusion service that will appeal to Mediware’s broad user community. He is currently the director of the Transfusion Medicine Division at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, professor of Pathology, Medicine, and Oncology at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, and editor of the journal Transfusion.. From 1983 to 1999, he held a number of management positions including CEO and medical director of the Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Region of the American Red Cross Blood Services. Dr. Ness has written over 150 articles for medical journals, co-edited two comprehensive texts on transfusion medicine. He has also been deeply involved in blood management regulatory and oversight organizations, including being AABB president in 1999.
