Harmony was proud to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life for the second year running. At Relay For Life events, communities come together to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has already taken too much.

During this overnight relay-style event, teams camped out and took turns walking or running around a local high school track while carrying their team baton. Because cancer never sleeps, teams try to have at least one participant on the track at all times. And that we did – the Harmony team walked all night, holding the team baton high, even during the less-desirable midnight – 6:00am shift. Overall, we walked a total of 175 miles!

Teams spent the weeks and months leading up to the event raising funds that will help make a difference in the fight against cancer. The Harmony team worked hard to raise $11,595 and ranked as the second highest fundraising team at the event. A special thanks to all of those who donated and helped us more than double our original $5,000 fundraising goal!

The event kicks off with a celebration of survivors during the Survivor and Caregiver walk. Harmony’s survivors took to the the track alongside fellow survivors and caregivers during this emotional commencement activity.

The American Cancer Society and Relay for life work to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Participants wore birthday hats, decorated their camps with decorations, and ate birthday cakes to promote the cause.

175 miles and many sore feet later, Harmony team members packed up the campsite and tucked the team baton away for safekeeping until next year. Thanks to everyone who helped make this year’s event a success and brought a bit of hope, support, and comfort to those affected by cancer.
